When deciding where to stay in Mexico, we knew we had a short period of time and had to make it a quick trip. With that in mind, we decided to stay in Los Cabos at the beautiful Hilton Los Cabos hotel. Los Cabos is a lot more tranquil and peaceful than Cabo San Lucas and since the Hilton Los Cabos is in the center of San Jose and Cabo San Lucas we knew it would be the perfect location to stay to get where we wanted. We booked a private car with our hearts set out to explore the town.
The history and town which we would recommend over taking an over crowded bus tour.
We wanted to photograph, and really experience culture straight from the locals. Since I had been there a few years before I knew that I we didn’t need a tour guide and we had free range to explore where we wanted whenever we wanted and weren’t on a time schedule.
We visited Old San Jose and got to visit the Flora Farms store in the centro which has an array of organic fruits and veggies, homemade soaps and toiletries which smell beautifully. Other places we got to see were, the beautiful Mission of San Jose del Cabo Church, El Arco, Cabos’ infamous arch. It’s a popular destination for tourist to visit and is easy to get to by a water taxi. Candy colored walls lined the streets and were a feast for the eyes, but we also learned about the difficulties of everyday life for the people of Mexico. A lot of history about this land being able to drive through the land of where people live you can see that the conditions they live in aren’t close to what we have here in the States. We went for a sunset horseback ride and our guide showed us all of the hotels and homes which were destroyed by Hurricane Odile, it’s the most powerful ever to strike the Baja California peninsula of Mexico.
If you ever have the chance to visit Mexico, I recommend bringing extra cash for tipping or toiletries to give back. The people of Mexico are so grateful to tourists and can use all the help they can get to support their families.
Traveling has a way of opening our eyes to different cultures, sights, colors and more ways we can be grateful.
