I wanted to bring you a special Dia de los Muertos makeup tutorial that my aunt I worked on this weekend. Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is neither scary nor somber the holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember those who have died. This is a Mexican holiday observed throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. We created this very special alter as a place to pray for the ones we have lost, although I don’t have pictures of these people I wanted to set the alter up in remembrance of my great grandmother. My mother always shares her stories with me about her and we thought that we would pay a special tribute to her and remember her in the special way. My aunt discovered some amazing items in my grandmother’s wooden chest and we knew these would go great to set out and bring the old with the new.
Below is a step by step makeup tutorial on how to get this Dia de los Muertos look!
Step 1: Start with a fresh clean face, moisturize lightly.
Step 2: Begin outlining a circle around one eye with a thin paint brush followed by painting half of your face white avoiding the outlined areas.
Step 3: Fill in the outlined circle with a color, we choose yellow and black with glitter (be creative it doesn’t have to be perfect), then add a half upside down heart on the tip of your nose and a half upside down heart at the top of your forehead.
Step 4: Finish by decorating your face with rhinestones, lipstick and other unique lines that will add character to your face, complete your everyday makeup on the other side of your face!
