I few weeks ago we celebrated my cousin’s 24th birthday and we had a round of Mint Juleps. I always love this drink around the spring time! They remind me of the Kentucky Derby, and the drink actually originated in the South. So I thought I might as well show you all how to make this adorable drink to serve to your guests or you can enjoy it all by yourself! Here’s what you’ll need:
Ingredients:
- 4 cups bourbon
- 2 bunches fresh spearmint
- 1 cup distilled water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- powdered sugar
- crushed ice
- mint julep silver cups
Instructions:
In a large measuring cup mix granulated sugar with distilled water which will make your simple syrup then set aside. In a large mixing bowl pour four cups of bourbon then mix simple syrup in bowl. Funnel the mixture back into the bourbon bottle and freeze for an hour or overnight if you’re making it head of time. Muddle mint leaves at the bottom of your mint julep cups to extract the oils pour crushed ice into your cup and then pour your bourbon and simple syrup mixture into cup continuing to add ice. Lightly sprinkle powdered sugar on ice & bourbon mixture and garnish with fresh mint sprig and straw! Have you ever made a Mint Julep? Let me know how you make yours in the comment box below!
